Pets play a vital role in our society. They give us companionship, affection, a sense of responsibility, and protection. Additionally, pets help improve our health by lowering blood pressure, reducing stress, and promoting exercise. As responsible pet owners, we can assure that dogs, cats, and other pets remain enjoyable members of our lives and the lives of those around us.

Adoption of Animals

The Victoria City-County Animal Shelter has dogs and cats available for adoption Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Dogs and cats adopted from our shelter are required by state law to be vaccinated for rabies and spayed or neutered. We DO NOT adopt out Pit Bull dogs, Pit Bull mixes, or any other aggressive dogs.

Adoption Fees for Dogs

In the city of Victoria (Includes rabies vaccination, city license and spay and neuter)

Medium  $94.00
Large $99.00

Outside the city limits(Includes rabies vaccination, spay and neuter)

Small  $84.00
Medium  $89.00
Large $94.00

Adoption Fees for Cats

In the city of Victoria (Includes rabies vaccination, city license and spay and neuter)

Male   $52.00
Female  $77.00

Outside the city limits(Includes rabies vaccination, spay and neuter)

Male   $47.00
Female  $72.00

City License Fees

In the city of Victoria, it is required to register all dogs and cats over the age of four months to obtain a city license. City licenses may be purchased at the Victoria City-County Health Department, Victoria City-County Animal Shelter or at any veterinary office in Victoria County.  

First time registration  $5.00
Registration after 1st year(good for 3 years)  $15.00
Replacement tag(only available at Health Department & Shelter)  $2.00

Impoundment of Animals

If your animal is picked up by Animal Control personnel, animal will be held, for three days at:

If currently vaccinated and spayed/neutered  $10.00
If not vaccinated and spayed/neutered  $50.00

*Additionally the animal will receive a rabies vaccination at the cost of $15.00; and if the animal resides in the city limits, it will be registered for $5.00.

Animal Bites 

In accordance with state law, all animal bites and cat scratches must be reported to the Animal Control Division.
